Indian Currents

Indian Currents (IC) is a registered National News Weekly, owned by the Indian Currents Society, under the patronage of the Capuchins of Krist Jyoti Vice-province of North India. It is the only weekly of its kind in India, which gives investigative and in-depth analysis of day-to-day events in the socio political and religious fields. Educational inputs, human rights and minorities’ issues, gender issues, and environmental issues are our prime concern and we move our pen to awaken the conscience of those in power. We promote national integration, communal harmony, justice, peace and integrity of creation.
Launched in 1987, IC has emerged as a significant addition to the secular Press in India providing an alternative news and views magazine among the many periodicals and journals that jostle for space in an overcrowded field. During its 21 years of existence, it has proved its worth adhering faithfully to its most cherished motto of being the voice of the voiceless and voice of the conscience. It has chosen to tread an unbeaten path, and it has steadfastly stood the ground in rain and shine.
From the very beginning it has been unfaltering, resolute and unwavering in its efforts at evaluation of issues, political trends and emerging vistas and proposing new orientation to meet fresh challenges facing the people, society and the nation. It has ever been committed to its charter as watchdog, giving warning of trends which may threaten the democratic polity of the nation or encroach upon the freedom of thought and action. National integration and world fellowship based on values of human fraternity are its main thrusts.

Unlike the sensational journalism one comes across in many periodicals, the Indian Currents aims at offering objective coverage by remaining true to its principled stand of disseminating news and views without fear or favour and sticking to its core commitments. In the past one and a half decade of its existence, IC could prove it to be right. Our stories and articles on a wide range of topics have been widely acclaimed by a cross-section of people – decision-takers, policy-makers, intellectuals and ordinary readers.
The many path-breaking human interest stories and the issues we have highlighted speak volumes of our commitment to the cause of betterment of Dalits, the minorities, women and the marginalised sections of the society. Since IC has no axe to grind, it could stand its ground in focusing on human interest stories involving the sufferings of the masses. It critically analyses policy decisions and issues related to governance and administration with direct reference to the highest common good.
IC will continue to follow the path it has charted out for itself in the past and uphold the values that are close to its heart.
IC is a member of Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and accredited to DAVP.
Media Matters, a registered monthly, mainly for media education and advertising the books of Media House Publications, is a sister concern of IC. Assisi Institute of Communications and Technology (AICT), a study centre of G.J. University, Hisar, Haryana, which offers BMC, MMC (Masers in Mass Communication), and PGDMC, is another sister concern of Indian Currents.

IC depends solely on its subscribers for its sustenance, sans any commercial advertisements. Hence our appeal to all the right thinking people for their support for IC through subscriptions and introducing IC to other friends.
